PASSPORTS and VISAS

Enter Slovenia without an entry permit, i.e. a visa or a residence permit

If you are a citizen of:

  • EU (European Union) member state or

  • EEA (European Economic Area) member state or

  • Switzerland or

  • Other (third) countries whose nationals are exempted from holding a visa,

you may enter Slovenia with a valid identity card or a valid passport and you are not required to obtain an entry permit, i.e. a visa or a residence permit. 

EU Countries: 

  • Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK (in the process of leaving EU).

EEA Countries:

  • Includes all EU countires + Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Other (third) countries whose nationals are exempted from holding a visa when crossing the external borders:

  • All countries listed in point B (List of third countries whose nationals are exempted from holding a visa when crossing the external borders) in the linked document.

Enter Slovenia with visa

Citizens of all other (third) countries (except countries mentioned above) are required to obtain a visa at a diplomatic mission or consulate of the Republic of Slovenia abroad:

  • All countries listed in point A (List of third countries whose nationals must be in possession of a visa when crossing the external borders) in the linked document.

  • Important: you can enter Slovenia vith the valid visa of any other EU member state from a "Schengen area" (be careful: not every EU member state is in "Schengen area" - check "Schengen area" list here)!
